This holiday season, I picked up my camera again. Mini sessions, just like the ones I’d done before. And as hopeful as I was, I couldn’t help but wonder who would step in front of my lens this year? Would anyone even have the time, amidst the holiday hustle, the chaos of life?
But then the inquiries came in, one after another. And I realized, people don’t just want their moments captured. They need it. They need their stories, their connections, their magic preserved. Not for Instagram or holiday cards, but for the simple, beautiful act of remembering.
Hilary and Connor. I met them years ago at my very first mini sessions at Classen Coffee. Back then, it was just the two of them. And now? There they were again. This time with sweet little Hartford. Watching them as parents felt so natural, like stepping into a role they were always meant to have. Parenthood suits them in the most beautiful way.
And then there were Jeanne and Paul. Their boys brought this vibrant energy, the kind that fills a room, or in this case, a parking lot, with laughter. Everyone rocking Vans. I mean, come on. Effortlessly cool, right? But it wasn’t just about the shoes or the smiles. It was about those moments, the little ones, that made this family’s love shine so brightly.
And then there was Rachel and Jeff. The way they moved together, the way Marly and Ronin shared quiet smiles and soft snuggles. These are the moments, you know? The ones that happen in between- the ones you almost don’t notice until you freeze them in time. And when you do, you see it. You see what makes a family unique.
This season, it all reminded me why I do this. Why photography isn’t just a job- it’s a piece of my heart. Because every family I photograph brings something special. Something radiant. Something fleeting. Picking my camera back up wasn’t just about booking sessions. It was about capturing the stories that matter.
So to every family who stepped in front of my lens this season, thank you. Thank you for trusting me with your moments. For reminding me that magic exists, even in the smallest of details.
