Bread & Butter

Capturing families and couples with my camera is where I feel at home. It's my bread and butter. 🍞 🧈 There’s something magical about capturing those little moments, like the anticipation film photographers feel, watching their images come to life after developing. Each session brings a mix of excitement and nerves as I sit down to edit, wondering how the images turned out. Digital photography has streamlined so much, but there's still an element of mystery each time, a glimpse of truth in how well the session went, if the settings were spot-on, and if I’m still a “good” photographer. I imagine these photos finding a home on walls, in grandparents’ hands, and on holiday cards. Being a photographer means being a documenter of life, and I am incredibly grateful for each family that has trusted me with their story.

The Lorenzen family is truly a photographer’s dream. From the start, we shared laughter and smiles with each shot, creating a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. While I’m still honing my ability to direct during shoots, a skill my documenter’s heart resists because I want photos to feel genuine and unposed, the Lorenzens made it easy, needing very little guidance.

Early in my career, photographing families with older kids felt intimidating; capturing the effortless energy of younger children seemed simpler. But during this session, age didn’t matter. Everything felt beautifully natural and fell into place.

John H. Saxon Park in Norman, Oklahoma, holds a special place for me and my friend Abbigale. We first visited the park together with our dogs, and later, I returned to capture couples photos of her and her boyfriend, Javier. Returning yet again for her family photos initially felt repetitive, so I scouted other locations before finally accepting that Saxon Park truly is the perfect spot in Norman for photos. Just past the parking lot, a vast field stretches out to the east, with trees framing the west. When we arrived, the light in the front field was a bit too bright, so we saved it for last and began our session along the gravel paths that weave through the park.

I love the different options the park offers too. This photo on the path with the trees framing the family was just perfect.

Capturing moments like these reminds me why I love what I do. Each family brings their own unique story, and every session is a chance to preserve a little piece of that story for years to come. Whether it’s in a favorite park, a cozy home, or a place that holds special meaning, I’d be honored to help you create lasting memories with your loved ones. If you’re ready to book your own family session, reach out- I’d love to capture your story.
